The Research Division of the House of Commons Library in London stated in a letter dated 16th November 1995 "..... adopted under the Adoption of Children Act 1926. By section 5 (2) of that Act adoption did not affect a child's inheritance rights in the birth family. This should not therefore affect Mr. Matthews' position in relation to Captain Fletcher ..... "
