THE ADOPTION

The Plot Thickens .....

There are a number of "coincidences"
concerned with the adoption itself.

Firstly, take a look at the strange choice of the name "Ken Williams" (not "Ken Matthews"] at the head of the letters from (a) the Magistrate's Court to The Lord Chancellor's office on 4th April 1995 (the date of John Theodore Talbot Fletcher's death) and (b) the solicitors acting for Andrew Fletcher, the nephew, on 25th October 1995 [click here].

Secondly, you may be interested to discover that the juvenile court (under which adoptions took place) sat only on a Friday [click here for confirmation of this].

How interesting then that Ken Matthews was apparently adopted on a Tuesday (both 12th April 1938, date of application, and 12th July 1938, date of order, were Tuesdays] [click here].

Even more significant perhaps is the letter from West Glamorgan Archive Service stating that there is "no record of any court proceedings on 12 April or 12 July 1938" [click here].

Guess who was listed as a JP on the Glamorgan bench? Andrew Talbot Fletcher, father of John Theodore Talbot Fletcher [click here].

There were, incidentally, only *two* adoptions listed for that particular borough for the whole of that year (1938), according to the County Archivist at Swansea [click here] - but *three* adoptions listed at the Neath Borough Petty Sessional Division [click here].

It now appears that Ken Matthews' adoption papers have "gone missing" [click here].
