THE CHARACTERS

There are many Characters in this long and convoluted story ..... to begin with, we're including the Fletcher family tree (see below graphic re individual family members).

The Fletcher family tree

FLETCHER FAMILY MOTTO(s): "Dieu pour nous" and "festina lente"
[ "God for us" and "more haste, less speed" ]

Christopher Rice Mansel Talbot

CHRISTOPHER RICE MANSEL TALBOT

1803 - 1890

"19th Century multi-millionaire"

Emily Charlotte Talbot, who secured the family fortune in a 500-year trust

Emily Charlotte Talbot was the eldest daughter of CRM Talbot of Margam [above] - the Liberal MP for Glamorgan for 60 years and latterly known as Father of the House (of Commons).

Emily inherited her vast fortune from her father, known as "the wealthiest commoner". It is reported that she inherited six million pounds and that was in 1890. Emily did a lot of charitable work and used her wealth to help others. She is reported to have paid for St Theodore's church to be built and named it after her brother, whose early death in a riding accident meant that the huge inheritance came to Emily [see also "The Emily Charlotte Talbot Trust" - a 500-year trust set up to protect the family wealth indefinitely]. Emily was to be the last of the Talbot line.

Captain Andrew Mansel Talbot Fletcher, father of John Theodore Talbot Fletcher

CAPTAIN ANDREW MANSEL TALBOT FLETCHER

1880 - 1951

Mrs. AMT Fletcher, mother of John Theodore Talbot Fletcher

FRANCES JANE [WINNINGTON], MRS AMT FLETCHER

1880 - 1953

The industrial wealth of the Talbots was married with the Fletcher ancestral heritage to form the Talbot Fletcher dynasty.

The Fletchers were direct descendants of Robert the Bruce, whilst the Talbots had descended from the Talbots of Leycock Abbey, pioneers of photography.

John Theodore Talbot Fletcher's only surviving sister was Josephine, Countess of Mexborough, whose son the Hon Charles Anthony Savile was one of the executors of John Fletcher's Will.

Below is the family tree for the Talbots.

There are many pages of research and proofs to be added to this website - Ken Matthews and his wife Penny have discovered so many "coincidences" that it makes disturbing reading. These are the main areas of enquiry that will be covered [some are still under construction but we're adding new info regularly] - click on any of the boxes below to reach the relevant area.
