JOHN FLETCHER'S WILL

John Theodore Talbot Fletcher's Will is quite specific. He asked to be cremated and for his ashes to be interred at Saltoun. The cremation happened with breathtaking speed ..... and the ashes seem to have disappeared altogether.

There are a number of distinctly odd things about this Will [to read any of the pages, just click on the links below].

  • Why didn't John Fletcher alter his Will when he added the codicil - some of the people mentioned in the Will were already dead, as he would have known full well.

  • Mrs. Greenwood is named both as a beneficiary and a witness. This (we are told) is against the law.

  • Observe the initialling at the bottom of each page and the signatures on page 7, page 8, page 10 and page 11. John Fletcher suffered from serious arthritis in his hands and writing would have been a tremendous effort for him.

  • Just as an aside, what's happened to Margaret Fletcher, the niece? She is mentioned in both the Will and in John Fletcher's memoirs .... yet she's missing from the Fletcher family tree, and nobody seems to know what's become of her.
